Coverage of the poker series 2019 British Poker Open. '19 - Sep 12, '19 Aspers Casino Newcastle (Newcastle) Complete Schedule of Events.
It might be cold, industrial and their beloved football team might currently be in turmoil, but
Upon Tyne is one of the most fun places you can go to. The atmosphere on a weekend is electric, the people are genuinely very friendly and it is the ideal choice of destination for a stag or hen party. It is also a severely underestimated destination for
. Because its right at the top of the country, it's not as easy as some of the London and Midlands poker venues that attract circuit pros from all round the UK, but Newcastle has a wide choice of poker pit stops to boast and a superb community to boot. Newcastle is one of the biggest cities in the UK and boasts 4 major casinos, although Bannatyne's Casino is not very well known for its poker, the others are.
Aspers Casino is an impressive venue over three floors with a South Seas themed decor, its right in the centre of the city and a superb venue for poker or just a night out. They boast a spacious card room, with a second floor available to play if demand is high. They have a busy schedule and were the first card room in the UK to host the electronic PokerPro tables that don't require a dealer. They have been host to a number of festivals, most notably APAT and Virgin Festivals, and if there was one complaint it would simply be that there isn't enough ranking festivals in this excellent card room.
Aspers can be found at The Gate, Newgate Street. Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE1 5TG and their regular schedule looks like this:
Monday 8.00pm £20 No Limit Texas Holdem Rebuy
Tuesday 8.00pm £5 No Limit Texas Holdem Rebuy
Wednesday 8.00pm £10 No Limit Texas Holdem with 1 Rebuy and 1 Addon
Wednesday Cash Games Free between 9pm and 11pm
Thursday 8.00pm £50 Terminator No Limit Texas Holdem (5,000 chips plus bonus)
Friday 8.00pm £20 No Limit Texas Holdem Freezeout
Friday Cash Games Free between 9pm and 11pm
Saturday 4.00pm £50 No Limit Texas Holdem Freezeout Terminator(7,000 chips)
Saturday 8.00pm £30 No Limit Texas Holdem Freezeout
Sunday 4.30pm £50 No Limit Texas Holdem with 1 Rebuy and 1 Addon
The Stanley Circus is another big fancy venue that one would come to expect from the CircusPoker franchise, although the card room isn't quite as busy as Aspers or the Grosvenor, it does have a loyal following of regulars. The buy-ins are on the more affordable side of things but they do have quite deep structures considering this, so defiantly worth a peek for newer players. They also have some good guarantees and a regular money added event once a month. They used to host festivals there but that seems to have fallen by the wayside in recent years. They can be found at Forth Street, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE1 3NZ and their schedule currently looks like this:
Monday 8.00pm £10 Texas Hold'em with 1 Rebuy and/or 1 Addon with 3,000 chips
Tuesday 8.00pm £30 No Limit Texas Holdem Double Chance Freezeout with 2 x 3,500 chips
Guarantees: £2,000 for 60 players; £1,500 for 45 players; and £1,000 for 30 players
Wednesday 8.00pm £2 No Limit Texas Holdem Double Chance Freezeout with 8,000 chips and the winner receiving a seat into the £50 Freezeout
Thursday 8.00pm£25 No Limit Texas Holdem Freezeout with FREE £5 Terminator and 7,000 chips
Friday 8.00pm £10 No Limit Texas Holdem with 2 Rebuys and 2 Addons (£50 max) and 3,000 chips
Friday midnight £25 No Limit Texas Holdem Freezeout with 6,000 chips
Sunday 8.00pm £20 No Limit Texas Holdem with 1 Rebuy or 1 Addon with 6,000 chips
First Tuesday of month £50 No Limit Texas Holdem Freezeout with £500 added and 9,000 chips
Finally, no big city is complete without a Grosvenor Casino and this one doesn't disappoint. A large venue that boasts a decent size card room is also host to the very popular Newcastle leg of the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour, which is there for the 3rd time this year in May. The weeklong festival is the biggest poker event in Newcastle and well worth marking on your calendar because of the amazing nights out that would follow busting out (or even better, winning) in the competitions. Although the GUKPT is king in UK poker, the regular Grosvenor schedule here is more towards the lower stakes end of the market. The Newcastle Grosvenor is found at 100 St James Boulevard, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 4BN and the weekly schedule looks like this:
Monday 8.00pm £20 No Limit Texas Holdem plus £5 Wildcard, NO REGISTRATION FEE, 6,500 chips, 90 mins for late entries
Tuesday 8.00pm £3 No Limit Texas Holdem Rebuy, FREE BUFFET, 1,000 chips, 90 mins for late entries
Wednesdy 8.00pm £15 No Limit Texas Holdem Deep Stack Freezeout, 8,000 chips,90 mins for late entries
Thursday 8.00pm £5 No Limit Texas Holdem Rebuy,1,500 chips, £1000 GUARANTEE WITH 50 PLAYERS, 90 mins for late entries
Friday 8.00pm £20 No Limit Texas Hold'em Double Chance Freezeout, 2 X 3,500 chips, 90 mins for late entries
Saturday 8.00pm £25 No Limit Texas Holdem Double Chance Freezeout, 2 x 4,000 chips, 1 hour 45 mins for late entire
So a little something for everybody in Newcastle and well worth planning a long weekend away for. We would advocate the Stanley Circus for new and low stakes players, Aspers for the serious players when they are in town and of course the Grosvenor is the only place to go when the GUKPT is in town. Finally we can't recommend any specific bars but you will have no problem finding them on a Friday and Saturday night.
